From Mr. Peter Wong Executive Director of the Hang Seng Bank Ltd

This has just happened to me, I signed on to my Gmail account, and sitting in my spam folder was 12 emails sent to me from Mr. Peter Wong! All sent within four minutes of each other!

Here is his email in full:

Dear Friend, I am Mr. Peter Wong Executive Director of the Hang Seng Bank Ltd,HONG KONG. An Iraqi named Besem Faruak, a business man made a numbered fixed deposit of (126,336,8299.38 HK) for 18 calendar months, this is valued to Eight million United State Dollars only in my branch. Upon maturity several notice was sent to him, even during the war, four years ago (2005). Again after the war another notification was sent and still no response came from him. We later found out that Besem Faruak, and his family had been killed during the war in Gunfire that hit their home at Mukaradeeb where his personal oil well was. After further investigation it was also discovered that Besem Faruak, did not declare any next of kin in his official papers including the paper work of his bank deposit. And he also confided in me the last time we was at my office that no one except me knew of his deposit in my bank. So, Eight million United State Dollars is still lying in my bank and no one will ever come forward to claim it. What bothers me is that according to the laws of my country at the expiration five years six months the funds will revert to the ownership of the HONG KONG Government if nobody applies to claim the funds. My proposal, I am prepared to place you as the next of kin in a position to instruct HANG SENG BANK to release the deposit to you as the closest surviving relation. Upon receipt of the deposit, I am prepared to share the money with you in half. That is: I will simply nominate you as the next of kin and have them release the deposit to you. We share the percentage 50/50. I would have gone ahead to ask the funds be released to me, but that would have drawn a straight line in my involvement in claiming the deposite. I assure you that I could have the deposit released to you within a few days. I will simply inform the bank of the final closing of the file relating to Besem Faruak, I will then officially communicate with my Bank and instruct them to release the deposit to you. With these, all is done. I am aware of the consequences of this proposal.should be interested in executing this with me,indicate your interest by sending me the following: 1. YOUR NAME 2. YOUR RESIDENT ADDRESS 3. YOUR OCCUPATION 4. YOUR PHONE NUMBER 5. DATE OF BIRTH 6. COUNTRY OF RESIDENT Your response with the requested information should be sent to reach me at my personal email address below: peter_1wong (like I was going to give you his edres 😉) I shall then provide you with more details on this operation when I hear from you. Sincerely, Mr.peter wong [snqtrtkru2j]

That’s it! Complete with no line breaks what so ever!

I’ve had a couple of these email before, but none of them where this persistent and sent me 12 of them!
Interestingly, that string of random letters and numbers is different on each email!

It seems that Mr. Peter Wong has struck before using different email address and wording the email differently, but they all say that he’s from Heng Seng Bank Ltd, which is a genuine bank in Hong Kong

Details of Mr. Wong’s previous emails:

Room 101!

Well, Ok, not room 101, more like post 101! Lol!
I cant believe that its been more than a month since my last post, doesn’t time fly!?!

Since my last post there has been a few things happen, some I had thought about posting about, but I just haven’t been able to get the time!

The nights are now drawing in, and the past few days has been sunny, unlike May and June!

I am now on a three week rolling rota at work, I am now working one in every three weekends.
Staying with work, one of the warehouse colleagues is cutting back his hours, and I’m taking over his Tuesdays, and will be bringing in deliveries!

Me and my girlfriend are still together, and on Sunday we go off on holiday to Jersey for a week. We will be camping. Its my first holiday on my own, and my girlfriends first out of the country!

One of my other less known websites http://linux.roganty.co.uk/ is being worked on. And I have nearly completed it. I just need to tidy it up, and make it more presentable

The spam count has reached 7,800. That’s 2,800 in just over a month! Thank you Akismet!

I think that’s it, for this post!
And hopefully not for another month!

100th Post!

This is my 100th post! Yay!
And I’m mad and typing it up at half past midnight on Monday! *groan*

This is just a quick post to say that I have finally uploaded the photos that I took when me and my girlfriend went to Bristol Zoo on my birthday, and then Chedder Gorge the following day.

Only one more thing before finishing this post, I have reached the magical number of 5,000 spam comments! WooHoo!
Yea, like thats anything to celebrate!

Good night!

Guestbook disabled

Thats it.
I have had enough of the spam entries in the guest book, so I have disabled it altogether.

I don’t know why the spammers kept on spamming the guest book, as I was not even letting any entries onto the guest book.

I have only disabled the posting of entries, you can still browse the posted entries.

Spam up!

No, I’m not talking about the advert for the processed meat.
But I am talking about those faceless-f**kers who, not only choke the internet full of emails advertising bulls**t, but also spam, in their dozens, the same c**p on guestbooks.

Yes, my guest book is being spammed. AGAIN!

I don’t know whether to be glad, or angry!
At least it give me an incentive to start development on my anti-guestbook (wow! what a good name!) and i will have plenty of test material 😉

In the mean time, i have put up some temporary barriers.
But if it continues at the rate at which it has, 22 posts on the 12 and 53 today
I will have to disable my guest book

Disabled Comments

Those spam bots are at it again!
This time they are spamming the Ajax post I posted back in November, so I have had to disable comments for my blog, as currently there is no option to disable comments on a post-by-post basis.

This is one feature I would (now!) like to see implemented *hint*hint* 😉
Plus better support for the smilies!

Spammed Guestbook

Since March my guest book has been getting a lot of spam entries, but things came to a head during the past two weeks with up to 10 spam enties a day.

I have now dramatically changed the format of the guest book and have added a new “spambook” table in the mysql database.
I have also changed the form so that the guest book details are sent using the POST method instead of GET.
Any new posts that meet a few certain criteria are now put into the spambook table with the IP address and the user agent of the browser that is being used.

The new guest book has now been in operation for two-three day and has already collected 20 spam entries in the new table.
From these “entries” i have learnt that the spammers use a different IP address every time they post a new entry, even if they are within minutes of the last one. They are also using the same browser:

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)

They have also set the country that they come from as “Other”, even though i don’t have an option for “Other”

Until the spammers realise that their “entries” are not being submited, my guest book should remain spam free for the time being
