It’s Snow Gone Now!

What weird weather we’ve been having! When we were forecast the worst snow for 18 years I was thinking, “Yeah right, it’ll all be gone in a day!”

It started snowing heavily Monday lunch time, and it was quite thick by the evening when we built a snowman in the back garden. There was a fine dusting of snow during that night, and by Wednesday it was all gone!

During Wednesday night it snowed again! And again Thursday night! Some places had up to a foot of snow!

Driving Thursday and Friday was hazardous, as no roads had been gritted, but the motorways had been ploughed.
There was also a lot of fuss about low grit and salt levels, with supplies in Bristol, South Gloucester, and BANES not having enough grit to grit all the roads, with reports that the supplies wouldn’t last till Monday!
It got so desperate that South Gloucester council had to use table salt instead of rock salt to grit the roads with!

Friday was the worst day of all, as the snow just settled on top of the snow left over from Wednesday night.
Friday was also the worst day for school closures, as all schools in South Gloucester and BANES were closed, as were most schools in Bristol.

During Saturday the snow stayed around, and conditions were icy.

Today (Sunday) it has been raining most of the day which has cleared all but the thickest deposits of ice and snow from the roads, but the forecast is for more snow for either tonight or Monday night.

I have posted some photos on Flickr, but I do have a few more to upload which I will do in the next couple of days.

Off to the Cinema

I’m going to the cinema tonight to watch Kung Fu Panda with my girlfriend

We’ll be using the free cinema tickets I got from eating a load of chocolates!

The only thing is, it’s only valid at Cineworld Cinemas
And the only one in Bristol is in Hengrove, the other side of the city!
Still, it should only take us about 20 minutes to get there.

If we don’t get lost!!!

The past week

Friday was Children in Need, and the big waxing took place in ASDA.
Unfortunately I missed Scott getting his legs waxed, but I have been told he chickened out and only had one leg waxed!

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I had an email from Schmap saying that one of my photos had been nominated to be included in the forth edition of their Bristol guide.
I got an email from them Saturday saying that my photo was included.
You can view it here.

Now for more news about Linux Links, I was working all day Saturday to try and get search working, but it just wasn’t going right!

I was copying code from phpBB, and from a couple of tutorials from the Internet, I was even using the MySQL search functions, but none of them produced the results I was after.

I now feel sorry for the pigeons working at google!

Search is still not working, but I have a new plan to try, it involves splitting the search string, searching for each word separately!
I’ll keep you posted on how it goes!

Till next time
See you!

Schmap

I got an email from Schmap Monday saying that

one of your photos has been short-listed for inclusion in the
fourth edition of our Schmap Bristol Guide, to be published
mid-November 2007.

I got the email Monday, but I didn’t read it until today.

I have submitted the photo, one of the ones from Bristol Zoo, to the final selection phase.

Now I just have to wait, I’ll be sent a message when the guide is released to let me know if my photo has been included in the Bristol edition.

Woohoo! 😀 I cant wait!

We are off today!

Just turned on my computer to check the weather forecast for Jersey and it looks to be quite sunny for most of the week, but with some light showers.

Whereas for Bristol, the forecast looks to be some quite heavy showers, with some sunny interval!

We’ve packed the sun cream at the bottom, so we should be ok for the weather! Lol!

We will be leaving here at 10am, and it should take us about an hour, to an hour and a half to get there, it is just about 80 miles to Weymouth!

I am both looking forward to the holiday, and am also very nervous.

See you all next week!
